Swansea City have opened talks with Wayne Routledge to extend his eight-year stay at the club.
The 34-year-old was thought to be surplus to requirements after the drop from the Premier League last summer, but the veteran winger has battled his way back into the side and proved his worth to manager Graham Potter.
“We’ve had some conversations and, of course, he could stay – absolutely. On and off the pitch he’s showing he can contribute and help,” said Potter.
“We’ll keep the discussions private, but we’re certainly open-minded to having him here. He’s been really important for the whole season, even when he wasn’t playing.
“He’s always been part of the group and he contributed to what we did in the first part of the season. Then, when he got the opportunity to play, you see his quality.
“He can play wide on either side and through the middle. He brings experience and calmness and, as a player and person, he’s great to have around.”
Routledge notched his 250th appearance for the Swans against West Brom last month and is one of the longest serving players at the club since joining from Newcastle United in 2011.
Swansea face Middlesbrough in the second of three successive home games this weekend and Potter will be hoping another of the older heads in his squad, Nathan Dyer, can maintain his run of recent form that included two of the three goals in the midweek win over Brentford.
