Cardiff City finished with 10 players in their Professional Development League Under-23 match against Ipswich Town at the Vale Resort.
The young Bluebirds had used three substitutes when Jamie Veale, who had gone on for Jamie Ward, was forced to limp off with an injury.
Cardiff led 2-0 when Veale went off after 84 minutes and they emerged 2-1 winners after Tralee-born Irish forward Shane McLoughlin scored for Ipswich after 90 minutes, but City held on for the victory.
Mark Harris fired Cardiff ahead when, with his back to goal, he flicked the ball into the left corner inside the first 10 minutes.
Harris went close with a low shot which flew just wide, while Rhys Healey’s header was saved.
Striker Ogo Obi was fouled after 38 minutes and jumped up to score from the resulting penalty.
Danny Rowe curled a shot just over the bar immediately before half-time and Cardiff were comfortably in control.
The loss of Veale was a blow and Ipswich pulled a goal back through McLoughlin, but that proved too little too late.
Andy Legg and Jarred Harvey are in charge of Cardiff’s under-23 team and their next fixture is against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in London on Tuesday, March 13 (1pm).
The next home game is at Cardiff City Stadium when Bolton Wanderers are the visitors on Monday, March 19 (7pm).
