Jonny Spittle has signed a full-time deal with Connah’s Quay following the expiry of his contract with Aberystwyth Town.

Spittle joined Aberystwyth on a short-term contract last summer but last week rejected an extension to remain with the Seasiders, with manager Nev Powell keen to keep the central defender at Park Avenue.

Spittle will instead be reunited with his former manager Andy Morrison, who he played under at Airbus UK, and sign on a full-time basis with the Deeside club.

The arrival of Spittle will fill the gap left in the Connah’s Quay squad left by the departure of Ian Kearney, who was released from the Nomads on mutual consent following injury.

“Ive worked with Jonny previously at Airbus and have closely followed his development in recent years,” Morrison confirmed. “Jonny fits the profile of the type of player we are looking to bring into the club – at 23, he’s a young Welsh Premier League centre half who we feel, by going full time, will help develop his game and bring more strength to our squad.”

Connah’s Quay face Porthmadog this weekend in the Welsh Cup fourth round.
