Newtown have been dealt a major blow for their forthcoming Europa League Play-Off campaign after it was revealed they will be without leading scorer Jason Oswell.
The Robins cemented their play-off spot on the weekend with a record 7-0 away victory against Airbus UK and will face Bangor City in their play-off semi-final.
Oswell scored his third hat-trick of the season in that win, but speaking after the game manager Chris Hughes announced his striker would miss the club’s European push due to a long-standing commitment, relating to the final placement of his Physiotherapy degree.
Oswell will be going out to Uganda with a charity called Knowledge for Change, and will be working at Kyaninga Child Development Centre.
He will be helping children with neurological conditions, and children in the community who don’t have much support or ways of getting to the centre.
During his stay in the country, the Robins striker will also be going into schools to raise awareness of basic things such as hygiene.
The 24-year-old has been the subject of growing speculation after his 22 WPL goals have put him on the cusp of this season’s Golden Boot award.
Oswell is in his third season with Newtown after joining the club in 2013 following spells at Inverness CT, Rhyl and Airbus.
