Neil Warnock says he has committed to a second season in charge of Cardiff City because of the fans.
“If the fans hadn’t been like they have I wouldn’t be here next season,” said Warnock. “They’ve really come on board.
“So many things can inspire a manager and seeing the fans enjoy your presence at the club is one of them.
“Contracts don’t matter to me, As long as they want me I’ll be doing the best for the fans.
“I’ve done 1400 odd games in 37 years in management. It takes inner strength and desire – the highs are so good, when you’ve won a game you can’t replicate that.
“Seeing a player score goals when you’ve coached him.
“I love the Championship like no other league I’ve been in. The support I’ve had from Vincent Tan and Ken Choo has been good and I’m repaying the faith they’ve shown in me.”
“The Championship is as difficult as any league in the world to get out of, but the rewards are as big as any in the world too.”
Warnock takes his team to Wigan Athletic on Saturday with Declan John already ruled out. There has been sickness around the club this week and John hasn’t travelled because he has been suffering.
The Bluebirds have three Championship games remaining, starting with a trip to Wigan on Saturday and followed Newcastle United at home next Friday. Their final fixture of the season is at Huddersfield Town.
Cardiff could send Wigan down if they win and other results go against the Lancashire club.
While Warnock prepares his mid-table Bluebirds for the match at Wigan, he is also working towards next season and says he has already lined up a replacement for centre-half Bruno Manga.
Manga, 28, is out of contract this summer and has been offered a new deal to stay with the Bluebirds on reduced pay.
“We’re down the line on somebody else coming in for that position so we’re not going to let anything worry us,” said Warnock.
“If people don’t want to play for Cardiff City and if they don’t want to put a blue shirt on, then they’re not for us.”
Midfield player Peter Whittingham, who has spent 10 years at Cardiff, has also been offered a new contract on reduced terms.
“Nothing’s changed, I can’t say anymore,” says Warnock.
“I would imagine we will sit around the table again, but it might not be until the end of the season.
“We’ve lined up a number of positions, you can’t leave it to the last minute. We’ve spoken to probably half a dozen players and agents in the last week.”
