Llanelli Town have taken control at the top of Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One.

The Reds won 2-0 against rivals Haverfordwest County at Stebonheath Park and are six points clear at the top.

Penybont FC, County and Afan Lido are chasing hard, but there is no doubt that manager Andy Hill and his team are champions elect.

Llanelli won a trophy double last season, being crowned Division Two champions and lifting the League Cup, and they are on course to go one better this time.

They are through to the League Cup semi-finals and play Cwmbran Celtic at Afan Lido on Tuesday, April 10, while they are closing in on the First Division championship and promotion to the Welsh Premier League.

Chris Jones fired a seventh minute screamer to put Llanelli in front, while Lee Trundle added their second in the last minute to complete the scoreline.

Hill’s men are unbeaten in five and have beaten both of their closest rivals over recent weeks, 1-0 against Penybont and 2-0 v County.

The Football Association are close to revealing which clubs will be eligible for promotion and Hill has said: “Things are looking great behind the scenes, most boxes are ticked and the club are wrapping it all up this week. Some key staff have worked tirelessly to make it happen, namely Wayne Stephens.”
