Lee Trundle and his Llanelli Town team are aiming to finish the Welsh League season on a major high.
Second Division champions Llanelli won the title without losing a match and they are now within touching distance of completing a trophy double.
They play Cardiff-based Bridgend Street in tonight’s (Friday) Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup final at Briton Ferry’s Old Road ground (7pm).
Former Swansea goals ace Trundle, now aged 40, has netted 50 goals in all competitions including nine hat-tricks and told Swansea City TV: “That tally is the most I’ve scored in a single season I was playing for the Quiet Man pub team when I hit 87 in 19 games.
“That was before I signed for Wrexham in 2001.
“My best for Swansea was around 25 and I usually scored more than 20, which was what I aimed for each season.”
Trundle is enjoying playing for Llanelli manager Andy Hill, a former team-mate at Neath, and admits: “If I’m honest I look after myself better now than when I was a full-time pro, which is stupid.
“My missus is into healthy cooking. Everything is fresh. A big part of my regime now is the way she cooks.”
The Scouser is still in love with football, saying: “I feel happiest when I am out on a football pitch.
“Scoring goals feels just as good for Llanelli as it ever did.
“If I played League One or League Two even now and was managed properly I would score goals.
“But I’m happy at Llanelli. My job with Swansea City (as a club ambassador) and playing for Llanelli are perfect for me.”
Llanelli won 23 and drew seven of their 30 Welsh League Division Two fixtures and go into the final against Bridgend Street rated hot favourites.
Bur they dare not underestimate a Street team who have beaten two First Division clubs over the last couple of rounds, holders Taffs Well and Haverfordwest County.
Bridgend Street even had two players sent off against County, but they battled to a semi-final victory after overtime and penalties.
