The County manager reckons the performance showed “something that gives them hope.”
The Exiles, still rooted to the foot of League Two, produced one of their most determined showings of the season on Wednesday night, refusing to fold despite going down to 10 men for the final half-hour and twice coming from behind to secure a 2-2 result at Gresty Road.
The defiance on display stood in stark contrast to the dismal FA Cup exit at Boreham Wood just three days earlier — a loss that triggered what Fuchs described as a frank and overdue honesty session.
The Austrian confirmed that a no-nonsense team meeting on Tuesday laid the foundations for Newport’s revived intensity and late fightback against Crewe.
"We had a pretty honest conversation the day before the game where the boys were very honest about themselves and about the performance against Boreham Wood," said the Exiles boss.
"I loved what I heard and that's the basis now. We set the standards today that I will measure them [against] every single day in training and in every single game.
"Talking is easy, but they followed up with action and didn't give up until the very last second."
Cameron Antwi, whose early error gifted Crewe the opener, sparked the comeback after the interval when his strike forced an own goal to make it 1-1.
Even after Courtney Baker-Richardson’s dismissal and a second Crewe goal, the midfielder drove County forward and grabbed a dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser to secure a vital point.
For Fuchs, the resilience shown — particularly while a man down — was the clearest sign yet that his squad are ready to fight their way out of danger.
"The intensity that the players showed helps them believe more in themselves, which is a big step for us," added Fuchs.
"Going down one man and then going down by a goal and still coming back, still pressing them. We were really on top of the game, even though we were one man down.
"The players reacted to what they spoke about during the week, they showed real character and created a lot of chances. I'm very happy.
"I think what the fans saw today from the boys is something that gives them hope."

Although Newport remain bottom, the draw trimmed the gap to Harrogate Town to three points and kept Bristol Rovers within reach.
With Fleetwood Town visiting Rodney Parade on Saturday, Fuchs knows momentum must now be turned into results — especially with County without a home league win since mid-March.

However, he was quick to stress that Wednesday’s grit won’t automatically carry over.
"A performance like that doesn't automatically guarantee the next game to be won," said Fuchs.
"What needs to go in is the same work-rate, the same character, the same bravery that they showed today. And after that I think we are in a good position to get something from the game, but it's not a given.
"Do we want to have a home win? Yes, absolutely, the boys are burning [for it] and I think today you saw that there is something coming up. But, again, we need to do the work first, do the basics first."
