Things look bleak for the club bottom of League Two position and new manager Fuchs suffered a bruising start as boss away at Boundary Park.
The new Exiles chief endured a tough baptism as his side fell to a 3-0 defeat at Oldham Athletic, their 12th loss in 17 league outings, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table and five points from safety.
Yet Fuchs was adamant the ingredients for a revival are present — provided his players can cut out the costly errors and rediscover the fundamentals that have deserted them this season.
"The boys left it all out there," said the Austrian.
"They tried hard, they never stopped, even when we went down.
“What let us down is exactly what happened earlier this season already in the games before; at the decisive moments we were not tidy enough, we didn't have the organisation behind the ball that is needed to prevent those goals.
"I felt, honestly, at the end of the first half when Oldham put us under a lot of pressure the boys defended really well.
"They really were disciplined and tried their hardest to keep the ball out of the box and fought for every inch.
“Unfortunately, a couple of individual mistakes, not disciplined enough behind the ball, then that cost us [in the second half]."

Fuchs, a Premier League winner with Leicester City, had taken only one training session before leading County for the first time.
The fact that his side showed plenty of fight, even amid familiar failings, reinforced his belief that the squad has the temperament to escape danger.
"You can tell they have their heart in the right place – they care about the club, they care about their performance," he said.
"But we can put in all the effort we want, now we need to put points on the board."
The 39-year-old has been unequivocal about the first steps required to spark improvement.
He believes that clearer structure and tighter defensive organisation must replace the fragility that has undermined County throughout the campaign.
"My mentality as a manager is to do what's required right now," he explained.
"And right now we need to go back to basics. We need to make sure that we solidify our shape behind the ball, solidify our defence, get something on the board and then hopefully that gives them a little bit more confidence and we can create momentum because that's definitely not there right now."
Fuchs said he understands the psychological weight on his players’ shoulders after months spent in the relegation zone.
"I've been in those situations myself, where you fight against relegation and you're at the bottom. It's not easy.
“Things feel two or three times harder, the legs are heavier. But when I look at the group there's a lot of energy there, and that's what gives me the hope."

He also emphasised the commitment of the people working behind the scenes at the club.
"As tough as it is right now, the people that are in charge, they're caring people," said Fuchs.
"Everybody's wearing 10 different hats just to make sure that the players get provided with everything they need.
“It's really caring and that was the part that convinced me at the end that there's good people in charge… that just go above and beyond to help the team succeed."
With a full week ahead to prepare for Barrow and his first home match at Rodney Parade — where Newport have not won a league game since March — Fuchs believes a re-set is possible.
And despite the grim statistics, he remains firm in his conviction that the Exiles can fight their way back.
"I'm looking forward to the first home game because I'm sure the fans will be behind us and push the boys forward," he said.
"In moments like this, the team needs our fans more than ever."
