Newport County have started their pre-season training programme just over a fortnight before their first friendly at Undy Athletic.

Manager Mike Flynn will again have coach Wayne Hatswell and first team consultant Lennie Lawrence working alongside him, while County currently have 20 players in their squad.

Winger Jennison Myrie-Williams is the only player from last season who has yet to agree a new contract or leave the club.

Former West Ham striker Frank Nouble has joined County on a one year contract and he will compete with Aaron Williams and Marlon Jackson for a starting place in attack.

Newport have also signed 21-year-old forward Lamar Reynolds from non-league Brentwood Town.

Ryan Bird, Lenell John-Lewis, Craig Reid and Tom Meechan, all strikers who were with County last season, they have all moved on.

Former England under-19 international Nouble, now 25, 13 appearances for West Ham in the Premier League and Championship after progressing through Chelsea’s academy. He played for Gillingham and Southend United in 2016-17, having previously gone out on loan to nine clubs.

“Frank is the right age for us and I’m looking forward to getting him fully fit and getting the best out of him,” said Flynn.

“Once we achieve that, we will have got a Premier League player in the making.

“He proved his quality with West Ham and at big clubs in the Championship. Now it’s now the time for Frank to get his career back on track.”

Nouble had loan spells at Swansea City, Swindon Town, West Brom, Barnsley, Charlton Athletic and Gillingham, while he moved to Wolves in 2012 before taking in Ipswich Town, Coventry City, Tianjin Quanjian in China, Gillingham again and then Southend United.

Flynn has snapped up ‘attacking wide player’ from non-League football. He scored 28 goals in 36 appearances for the Isthmian League club last season.

County have signed midfield player Matty Dolan on a two-year deal, while goalkeeper/coach James Bittner has committed to the club for another year.

Mark Randall, meanwhile, has left Newport after his contract was terminated by mutual consent, while striker Bird has signed for Dover Athletic.

The Exiles have sold more than 1,000 season tickets for 2017-18 have announced their pre-season fixtures.
