The career of one of the all-time Welsh Premier League greats will be celebrated this weekend as Jenner Park plays host to Gary Lloyd’s testimonial game on Sunday (2.30).
Lloyd will line up for Barry Town Legends as they take on a Welsh Premier League XI. The WPL team will be managed by Wales ‘C’ manager and Sgorio commentator Mark Jones, who announced this week that Craig Bellamy will be in his squad.
Three-time title winning boss Gary Barnett will manage Barry Town Legends.
Gary Lloyd amassed seven league titles in eight seasons for Barry Town in a career which spanned 282 games for the club during the late nineties and early noughties.
Lloyd both started and finished his playing career at Llanelli, where he also lifted the title and he is the only WPL player to have been called up to the senior Wales squad, when he was named in Bobby Gould’s squad to face Belgium in 1997.
In addition to his eight league winner medals, Lloyd also won the Welsh Cup and League Cup on four occasions each as well as winning 11 Welsh semi-pro caps and two Wales ‘B’ caps.
Llanelli AFC secretary Neil Dymock has been working hard behind the scenes with Mark Jones to arrange the fixture.
“It promises to be a great day to celebrate Gary’s career. He achieved so much for both Llanelli and Barry Town and he is really looking forward to seeing his old teammates,” he said.
Lloyds’s former Llanelli team mates Andy Legg, Jason Bowen, Rhys Griffiths, Antonio Corbisiero and Stephen Jenkins have all agreed to play and the FAW are confirmed match sponsors.
Admission for the Gary Lloyd’s testimonial is £5 adults, kids free.
