Bruno Manga has committed to Cardiff City for the next two seasons.
Central defender Manga signed a new two-year contract and then said: “I am really pleased to be continuing my adventure with this magnificent club.
“My thanks to the manager and the board for having trust in me. Now it’s time to work towards getting back to where we all want to be.”
Neil Warnock has been in talks with Gabon international Manga since the end of last season and eventually reached agreement with the Bluebirds.
“It’s been quite a long process to get this one done, but what’s been clear to me throughout it all is that Bruno wants to play for this club,” says Warnock. “That’s the most important thing. I’m absolutely delighted.”
Manga, a composed and technically effective defender, signed a lucrative three-year deal when he arrived from French outfit Lorient in a £4m transfer in 2014 and it is likely he has accepted a pay cut to stay with the club.
He has made 77 first team appearances, scoring five goals. He was voted as Cardiff City ‘Player of the Season’ for his contribution during the 2014/15 campaign.
Speaking to cardiffcityfc.co.uk, Executive Director Ken Choo said: “We’re thrilled to have secured Bruno’s services for another two seasons and know that he’ll continue to be a fantastic asset for Cardiff City Football Club.
“We see this as another major piece of business for us this summer, building up on those deals that have already been finalised.”
Manga, 28, made 27 appearances last season and his commitment to Cardiff surely means that Warnock ends any interest in Everton defender Phil Jagielka, who is also being chased by Sheffield United.
Warnock now has Manga, Sean Morrison, Sol Bamba, Lee Peltier and Matt Connolly available to play at the heart of defence.
