Dean Ryan has been confirmed as the new man in charge at the Dragons – and given far more power than any of his coaching rivals. The Newport-based region today confirmed Ryan as their new director of rugby. But as well as taking charge of coaching, the former England international has also been given a seat on the region’s board. It means Ryan – who has coached both Gloucester and Worcester in the English Premiership – will have a big influence on the future direction of the region as they seek to alter their habitual status as the weakest of the four in Wales.

Swansea City are expecting an official approach from Brighton for manager Graham Potter today and fear he would like to join the Premier League club. Brighton owner Tony Bloom has let it be known that Potter is his first choice to replace Chris Hughton, who was sacked after the Seagulls’ nose-dived into a desperate relegation struggle for the second half of the season. Bloom has also briefed the media that Potter is interested in taking the job – suggesting the Swans boss has already been sounded out and would welcome the opportunity to move up a level, even though he is only 11 months into his job in the Championship.

Seb Morris helped Team Parker Racing salvage a top five finish in the Pro-Am class during a luckless second round of the Blancpain Endurance Cup season at Silverstone on Sunday. With a combination of an untimely Full Course Yellow period early in the race, and a major issue with multiple stalls for the Bentley Continental GT3 as Morris tried to leave the pits ahead of the final stint, genuine hopes of a challenge for Pro-Am victory evaporated. Even so, the 23-year old Wrexham-born driver produced a typically professional performance during the last hour of action. Circulating as much as four seconds a lap quicker than the cars around him while running sixth in class, Morris was able to overturn a deficit of more than 40 seconds in the space of just 15 minutes to catch and pass for fifth, which he then held to the chequered flag.

Newport County play-off hero Matt Dolan insists his side can clinch promotion at Wembley next week and reward their fans for unstinting support this season. County are preparing to face either Forest Green or Tranmere Rovers in the League Two play-off final, which will be a fourth trip to Wembley in the last seven years for the Exiles.
