Silver Lining For Georgia In Budapest

Georgia Davies bagged her second medal of the FINA Champion Swim series with silver in the 50m backstroke in Budapest.

The British record holder followed up her bronze from the opening round in China with second place in the Hungarian capital to claim one of six individual medals won by the British team.

Davies clocked 27.89 seconds to come home behind Russia’s Anastasiia Fesikova who touched the wall in the Duna Arena in 27.58.

The 28-year-old Loughborough University swimmer just missed out on a medal in the 100m distance finishing fourth in a time of one minute 00.95secs.

Hungarian star Katinka Hosszu took gold in 59.58 from Fesikova (59.73) and Australia’s Emily Seebohm (1:00.44)

There was also a fourth placed finish for 2018 Commonwealth champ Alys Thomas in the 200m butterfly after clocking 2:08.52.

Hosszu again struck gold in 2:06.62 from Germany’s Franziska Hentke (2:07.31) with Hungary’s Boglarka Kapas claiming the bronze (2:07.67)

Davies and Thomas have both been named in Britain’s team for the World Championships later this summer along with Dan Jervis and Callum Jarvis.
