Newport County play Spurs in an FA Cup fourth round tie at Rodney Parade on Saturday (5.30pm) in front of 10,000 spectators. The clash will be broadcast live on BT Sport 2, while there is live coverage on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and Radio 5 live. Newport manager Billy Lucas looked left-back Bryn Jones […]
Paul Hayes hasn’t forgotten the last time he played against Spurs and is dreaming of another FA Cup thunderbolt on Saturday to send Harry Kane and co tumbling out of the competition. The veteran Newport County striker saves his best goals for the FA Cup and scored twice against Mauricio Pochettino’s men at White Hart Lane in the fourth round last year when Wycombe were beaten 4-3 thanks to a 97th minute winner from Son Heung-min. “I don’t think they will remember me,” said Hayes, who has scored 17 FA Cup goals in 39 appearances for six different clubs.
The Football Association have gathered a number of Newport County fans together in a tribute to their club’s cup run. Loyal supporter Sean Edwards has celebrated County’s run to the Emirates FA Cup fourth round – and Saturday’s home tie against Spurs – in a touching poem. Commissioned by The FA, ‘A Cup Run For […]
Ben Tozer believes the Rodney Parade pitch will be the secret weapon in FA Cup giant killers’ Newport County’s bid to add the scalp of Tottenham to their collection. Mauricio Pochettino’s side head to the League Two club, conquerors of Leeds United in the third round, for Saturday’s tie, where they will play in front of 66,000 fewer fans than their last home game at Wembley against Everton. “We can win the game – 100% we can win the game. People will write us off, but they did that against Leeds,” said Tozer.
Scouser Jim Bentley left Newport County fed up and frustrated at Rodney Parade, but then predicted: “The Exiles will give Spurs a passionate Welsh reception on Saturday.” Morecambe manager Bentley and his team left South Wales after earning a 1-1 League Two draw against County. There were 2,754 spectators at the match, while 10,000 will […]
Striker Frank Nouble and goalkeeper Joe Day have a big night ahead of them when Newport County play Morecambe at home this evening (Tuesday, 7.45pm). Nouble is one booking away from a two-match suspension which would mean he would miss Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Spurs, while Day makes his 150th league appearance for the […]
Craig Harrison, who won six successive Welsh Premier League titles in charge of The New Saints, takes on the Wrexham challenge this afternoon. The Reds have made the trip from North Wales to County Durham for their Vanarama National League clash with Harrison’s Hartlepool team. Gateshead-born Harrison, 39, played for Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough before […]
Newport County jumped to fifth in the League Two table, but they are still refusing to think about that dream FA Cup tie against Spurs at home. The most important fixture now for manager Michael Flynn and his teams is against Morecambe at Rodney Parade next Tuesday – and the test against Harry Kane and […]
Newport County manager Mike Flynn has told new signing Emmanuel Osadebe he will have a tough job breaking into an in-form team. The 21-year-old midfielder has joined on loan from Cambridge United until the end of the season. Osadebe began his career at Tottenham’s academy before moving on to Gillingham where he played 22 matches.
Newport County boss Mike Flynn wants his side to be in the play-off places by the time they welcome Tottenham to Rodney Parade next week. The FA Cup fourth round tie against Mauricio Pochettino’s Premier League giants may be on the lips and minds of everyone in the Welsh city, but Flynn’s side have two games to play before then and he is eying up six points to get back into the top seven in League 2. “Everybody can see the buzz around the club and the city. The FA Cup run has regenerated the club,” said Flynn, whose side are currently two points off the play-offs in 10th.
Ian Traylor scored twice for Merthyr Town in their 2-2 Evo-Stik Southern League draw against Farnborough at the Rushmoor Community Stadium in Surrey. Both teams had a player sent off during an eventful second half. All the goals came after the break, while Farnborough’s Connor Calcutt and Martyrs defender Jarrad Wright were dismissed on straight […]
Newport County showed no FA Cup hangover after their win over Leeds as they beat Grimsby 2-1 on their return to Sky Bet League Two action. Robbie Willmott’s first-half strike and Frank Nouble’s deflected effort moved County to within two points off the play-offs, while Jamille Matt gave Grimsby some hope late on before being sent off. New signing Josh Sheehan was an unused substitute but believes he has two more games to prove he is worth a place against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup.
