Mike Flynn Would Consider Retirement If Newport Beat Spurs . . . But He Would Rather Go Up

Mike Flynn reckons he would feel like retiring if his Newport County team knock Tottenham out of the FA Cup – but he would still rather promotion from League Two. The County manager takes his team to Wembley for their fourth round replay on Wednesday night, aware that a shock result would be seismic in terms of rocking football’s axis. But given the choice between stunning Spurs or leading the club into League One, Flynn would take jam tomorrow, particularly since the club have lost to both Lincoln and Colchester since drawing their initial Cup tie 1-1 at Rodney Parade.

Harry Kane Will Get Closer Attention At Wembley, Vows Mickey Demetriou

Mickey Demetriou has vowed to stick even closer to Harry Kane when Newport County go to Wembley for their FA Cup fourth round replay. The County defender left Kane for a fleeting moment during Saturday night’s epic tie at Rodney Parade and that was all it needed for the England striker to save his team from defeat with an 82nd minute equaliser. But Demetriou believes he and his teammates will have learned much from their experience in front of almost 10,000 fans and will not be daunted for their visit to the temporary home of the Premier League giants.

Padraig Amond Says “Harry Who?” As Newport Mind Their Own Business

Padraig Amond insists Newport County have not given much thought to Tottenham Hotspur before their FA Cup clash at Rodney Parade – for fear of being a goal down before they start. County’s Irish striker says the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli have been far from their minds as they seek to achieve one of the greatest upsets in Welsh FA Cup history. The fourth round tie on Saturday evening may have attracted huge attention on the prospect of Spurs and their wealth of Premier League talent pitching up at one of the most notorious playing surfaces in the Football League, but Amond says the squad have not focussed on the opposition.
