Michael Flynn has ended speculation about his future by committing to Newport County until June 2020.
Exiles’ manager Flynn has signed contract extension on the day of Newport’s Emirates FA Cup replay against Spurs at Wembley Stadium.
He had been linked with the material vacancy at his former club Bradford City and said: “It’s nice to see your name linked to other jobs – it means you’re doing something right – but it’s not something I’m thinking about at all.
“It was all over Twitter yesterday but I’ve had no contact personally and it’s not something I’m thinking about.
“I’m the manager of Newport County and am really enjoying myself.
“I’m delighted that the board have agreed to improve my current deal.”I’ve always said I want to build a club and not a team and the increase in my tenure helps achieve that goal.”
Flynn guided Newport County to League Two safety last season, leading them out of a relegation battle.
They have made solid progress, launching a bid to finish among the play-offs and earning a reply against Spurs.
More than 7,000 County fans will be at Wembley Stadium this evening.
Former Bradford captain Flynn made more than 100 appearances for Bradford City, while his Newport assistant manager Lennie Lawrence is a former Bantams team boss.
Craig Bellamy, Paul Ince and Uwe Rosler have also been linked with the vacancy at League One Bradford following their decision to sack Steve McLaren.
Bellamy is keen to break into management, having missed out to Ryan Giggs in a bid to take charge of Wales.
The former Liverpool, Man City and Blackburn striker retired from playing in 2014 at Cardiff, where he is now Academy player development manager.
Former England player Ince, 50, has been out of management since January 2014 when he was sacked by Blackpool.
Flynn, though, is firmly focused on Newport County’s FA Cup tie at Wembley Stadium and their chase to earn a place in the League Two play-offs.
