Newport County boss Mike Flynn wants his side to be in the play-off places by the time they welcome Tottenham to Rodney Parade next week.
The FA Cup fourth round tie against Mauricio Pochettino’s Premier League giants may be on the lips and minds of everyone in the Welsh city, but Flynn’s side have two games to play before then and he is eying up six points to get back into the top seven in League 2.
“Everybody can see the buzz around the club and the city. The FA Cup run has regenerated the club,” said Flynn, whose side are currently two points off the play-offs in 10th.
“But we have two games to play before we can start thinking about Spurs and I want to be back in the play-off places by next weekend.”
Crawley Town head to Rodney Parade on Friday night for a game that is set to attract a crowd of more than 6,000. Those fans who turn up will go to the front of the queue for tickets against Spurs on 27 January for a game that will have a capacity of 10,000 with extra stands being brought in.
Morecombe head to south Wales on Tuesday night and six points from those two matches would extend County’s unbeaten run this year ahead of their FA Cup clash to five matches. Goalkeeper Joe Day will make his 150th appearance for the club against Crawley.
“Joe is the best keeper in the league by a country mile. He’s a great character and a joy to work with,” said Flynn.
