Wrexham are expected to appoint their former midfielder Bryan Hughes as their third manager of a troubled season after Graham Barrow’s decision to step down.
Barrow resigned on Tuesday night just six weeks after taking charge of the National League club following the departure of Sam Ricketts to Shrewsbury.
His decision to go comes with Wrexham still handily placed in fifth position in the table, just four points behind leaders Leyton Orient.
But the 64-year-old was a reluctant appointment and needed to be persuaded to take up the job.
Now, after a run of five successive defeats before their most recent win over Maidenhead, Barrow has chosen to leave.
Hughes – whose only managerial experience was a brief spell at Scarborough – could be named as his successor as early as Wednesday.
A statement from Wrexham stated: “Wrexham Football Club can confirm that Graham Barrow has resigned from his position as first team manager of Wrexham AFC.
“Graham has been a major part of our season to date and leaves the club four points from the top of the league with fifteen games remaining.
“We would like to thank Graham for his efforts and contribution in his time at the club and he leaves with our very best wishes.
“The club will make a further announcement tomorrow regarding a replacement first team manager.”
