Ton Pentre extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a 2-0 Welsh League home win against Caerau Ely.

The Rhondda Bulldogs are brimming with confidence and earned their win against fourth-placed Caerau.

Manager Lee Phillips and his Ton team started well when Corey Shephard played the ball from centre midfield out to Liam Reed on the left.

The striker used his pace to get around a Caerau defender and go into the 18-yard box. From the byeline, Reed picked out a superb pass to Sam Small, who was able to slot the ball into net to make it 1-0 after five minutes.

Ton Pentre defended well when the visitors pressed for an equaliser and almost double their lead with just over an hour gone.

The Bulldogs were awarded a free-kick just outside the Caerau penalty area and Liam Hutchinson hit a powerful effort that goalkeeper Scott James was relieved to see go wide of his left post.

Caerau Ely had their chances and went close from a corner. The Cardiff-based team should have been level but a headed effort went over the bar from inside the six-yard box.

With 10 minutes left Caerau had an effort cleared off the line before the Bulldogs added their second goal through Corey Shephard.

The Bulldogs youth team play Monmouth Town in the Welsh League Youth Cup on Monday, March 20 (7.30pm).

Barry Town United, leaders of Division One, travelled to play Taffs Well and won 2-0.

Luke Cooper was man of the match for Barry, while Dixon scored his 77th goal for the club in his 150th appearance.

Second Division leaders Llanelli were without a fixture because their game at Ammanford was postponed, while STM Sports, who are top of Division Three, suffered a home defeat.
