Rhian Brewster Urged By Old Liverpool Pal To Switch To The Swans

Rhian Brewster has been urged by his former Liverpool teammate Yan Dhanda to come and make an impact at Swansea City. Brewster is considering a loan move from Anfield for the second half of the season, with the Swans heading a queue of clubs who would like to sign the 19-year-old striker. Dhanda – who moved from Liverpool to the Liberty Stadium 18 months ago – is still a close friend of his former youth level teammate as well as Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“I have spoken to Rhian a few times,” said Swans midfielder Dhanda, who turned 21 two weeks ago.

“I would love him to come here. But it’s completely up to him what he wants to do. I’ll still be friends with him, either way.

“I’m sure he’d play lots of games here. Here’s an amazing player and if he came I’d be buzzing for him because he’s one of my close friends.”

Swansea manager Steve Cooper holds an advantage over rivals for Brewster’s capture as he has already worked with the player successfully at England U17 level as they won the age-grade World Cup together.

Cooper’s need is pressing since the club heads into today’s FA Cup third round tie at QPR desperately short of options for the main striker’s role following the return of loan recruit Sam Surridge to Bournemouth.

As Dhanda keep his fingers crossed for the Brewster deal to go through, nothing would make his day more than scoring the winner at Rangers, then pulling a tie against Liverpool out of the hat for the FA Cup fourth round.

“We all want to test ourselves against Premier League teams,” says Swans midfielder, who scored the only goal of the game against Charlton on Thursday night which took his team back into the Championship play-off places.

“Liverpool would obviously be nice for me. I’d love to play away at Anfield and maybe score there as well.

“A Cup run would be great and wouldn’t do us any harm at all. We want to be gaining those experiences. It would be stupid not to try and get a run going and try to win a trophy.”

When he’s not trying to guide Swansea back to the Premier League, Dhanda is fixated on his old mates’ domination of the title race – so the appeal of a get-together is not hard to understand.

“They are an amazing team. I’ve trained with them many times and with the intensity and the way they play, this run they are on is no surprise to me.

“What they demand of each other is amazing. To see them doing this well is incredible, but not surprising.

“But I’m buzzing for them because I’ve still got lots of friends there. Trent is a close friend and so is Rhian. I’m a Liverpool fan as well, so hopefully they can stay unbeaten and win the Premier League.”

Swans manager Steve Cooper is likely to be without skipper Mike van der Hoorn who suffered a knee injury against Charlton.

Rangers are on a high after their 6-1 thrashing of Cardiff City on New Year’s Day but Dhanda insists: “We’ve had three clean sheets in our last four games and we can build on that.

“I believe in myself and I back myself and I think 2020 can be a good year for me. I’m scoring goald and creating goals and that’s the ultimate aim for me. That’s what I’m working towards.

“The FA  Cup is another game and we have to go there and try and win, if it’s the Cup or the League. If we can get the win, then we could be playing against a Premier League team and that’s who we want to be playing against. Hopefully, we can get the win.”
