Newport County have been handed a money-spinning FA Cup third round draw at home to Leeds United.
County’s reward for beating Cambridge United – and making the third round stage for only the second time in 32 years – is another home draw against the club who reached four finals in an eight-year spell between 1965 and 1973.
Cardiff also have a home tie against League Two Mansfield Town, while Swansea City have a tough looking away draw at Championship leaders Wolves.
But with both Cardiff and Swansea having their primary focus on league issues, it is Newport’s draw that will generate most excitement amongst their fans.
Manager Mike Flynn had wanted to draw a Premier League club and be away from home for financial reasons, but a home tie against fallen giants just outside the play-off places in the Championship is not a bad second best outcome.
Cardiff will fancy their chances of making the fourth round at the expense of Mansfield, who are currently seventh in League Two, but manager Neil Warnock may be tempted to rest some players as they bid to stay in the automatic promotion places.
Swansea are also likely to take a similarly low key view of their tie at Wolves as they pursue the more pressing matter of trying to move away from the bottom of the Premier League table.
Liverpool will face Everton in the tie of the round, while holders Arsenal will travel to Nottingham Forest.
Premier League leaders Manchester City have a home tie against Burnley, Manchester United host Derby and Chelsea are away at Norwich.
Slough Town, the lowest-ranked side in the draw, will travel to Doncaster if they beat Rochdale on Monday.
Fellow seventh-tier side Hereford will face Leicester if they overcome Fleetwood in a replay.
Ties will take place from 5-7 January 2018.
