Leroy Fer has told his Swansea City teammates they must keep their noses in front of Hull City this weekend.
The Swans travel to already relegated Sunderland on Saturday with a narrow single point advantage over Hull, who occupy the last remaining Premier League relegation slot to be settled.
Head coach Paul Clement’s side moved out of the relegation zone last weekend after Hull were beaten at home by Sunderland before the Swans clinched a 1-0 victory against Everton at the Liberty Stadium.
The results left the Swans one point above the third-bottom Tigers and just three points behind Crystal Palace.
The Swans now visit Sunderland before Hull head to Palace the following day in a tense weekend of action as the battle to avoid the drop intensifies.
But Fer believes the Swans can take advantage of their one-point lead and pile on the pressure with a victory in the North East this weekend.
“We go into the next two games with a lot of momentum and in a position where we know our Premier League status is in our hands,” said the Dutch midfielder.
“That’s the best situation for us. We know if we do what we need to do then we don’t have to look over our shoulder.”
The Swans will be backed by 3,000 fans at the Stadium of Light this weekend after the players paid for the full away allocation of tickets, meaning the Jack Army will be at the game for free.
And Fer reiterated the squad’s desire to show Swans supporters just how much they mean to the team.
“If we win that game then the pressure is all on Hull,” added Fer.
“But we must focus on ourselves first and foremost. Sunderland showed last week against Hull that they are a proud team that will keep on battling and fighting for their fans.
“We are doing the same for our fans, and it will be amazing to walk out at the Stadium of Light with 3,000 Swansea supporters singing and cheering.
“Hopefully, with their support, we can take one massive step towards Premier League survival.”
