Joss Labadie has pledged his future to Newport County for two more years and believes the FA Cup giant-killers can turn into promotion stars next season.
The 28-year-old midfielder was in the side that reached the League Two play-off final at Wembley last season, before losing out to Tranmere Rovers and has stayed to take care of some unfinished business.
“Keeping the nucleus of the team together is vital and I truly believe we can go one step further than last season and achieve promotion,” said Labadie.
“Having spoken to the manager about his future plans, and with the signings he has made, I’m hoping we can build on last season and continue progressing as a team and as a club. I’m delighted to get it over the line.”
A pivotal player in the FA Cup clashes against Tottenham, Leicester City and Manchester City over the past two seasons, Labadie rejoined the club in October, 2018. He has now made 73 appearances.
“Joss has turned down a lot more money to stay because he feels like he has got unfinished business here,” said County manager Michael Flynn.
“He is a massive, massive signing for us and I am sure he will continue to be a leader both on and off the pitch for us.”
