Neil Harris is hoping the lockdown spirit that rocketed Cardiff City into the play offs last summer can help revitalise his ailing team and earn them a run in the FA Cup.
The Bluebirds boss has played or managed in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of what he describes as “the greatest Cup competition in the game” and believes and win in the third round at Nottingham Forest today could provide some much needed momentum.
“We are back to the same rules as we had during the lockdown in March. No one comes into the building other than senior staff, players turn up for training in their cars, walk onto the pitch and then get back in their cars and go home,” said Harris.
“It is back to basics for us, although I don’t mind that. We are still working and playing, which is the main thing, and fortunate to be doing what we love every day.
“I hope the lockdown spirit we had back then returns and this is a time for people to step up. Results were better then and the weather was nicer.
“We want to get back to those results.”
Harris will have to watch today’s game from the stands as he serves his one game touchline ban after he was sent off for abusive language in the defeat at Wycombe. He also received a £2,000 fine.
