The striker Cardiff City nicked from under Swansea City’s noses could miss the South Wales derby this weekend.
The Bluebirds are sweating on the fitness of Harry Wilson ahead of their big clash with the Swans at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday.
Wilson picked up an arm injury in the midweek win at Stoke and has been unable to train since. Now City boss Neil Harris is preparing to give him “until the last knockings” to recover to face the fourth placed Swans.
“It’s not a great injury in his arm and we don’t know the ins and outs of it yet. He’s got a real issue with it,” said Harris.
“We will have to see how he goes and we will give him up to the last minute to recover. But he needs to improve from where he is now to be able to play.”
Wilson has scored three times in 11 outings in the Championship since joining on loan this season and has developed into a key player for the Bluebirds.
He was wanted by Swansea, but Cardiff pipped their rivals to the Liverpool and Wales star and he has started in all four games that Cardiff have won in a row in the last 10 days and is crucial to Harris’s plans.
Those four wins have not only saved the manager’s job, but moved Cardiff to within four points of Swansea in fourth place and eight points of Norwich at the top.
“The confidence and self-belief in the group is high, the players are happy and settled and I don’t think we could go into this derby in any better shape,” said Harris.
“We had a difficult start to the season, but we’ve finally found the consistency we need with four wins in 10 days.
“We had a siege-mentality when we came out of lockdown in the summer that carried us into the play-offs last season and some of that had been missing up to this run.
“We’re still not back to that level, but now at least we are heading in the right direction. Now we just want to go out and put a smile on the faces of our fans by securing a derby win for them on Saturday.”
