The tide of history will need to be turned if Caernarfon Town keep their show on the road this weekend at Haverfordwest County.

Caernarfon Town manager Richard Davies will be hoping his side can maintain their unbeaten run when they travel to Haverfordwest County this weekend, in a fixture that has proved unforgiving for the north Walians in recent years.

Davies’ team currently top the JD Cymru Premier with three wins and a draw, scoring 15 goals in the process to sit a point clear of Penybont.

But history is against them at Ogi Bridge Meadow, where the Bluebirds have not lost to the Cofis in their past eight encounters.

It was Haverfordwest who dashed Caernarfon’s European dreams last season, claiming the third and final UEFA Conference League place with a 3-1 victory in the play-off final.

All four league meetings between the sides ended level before Tony Pennock’s side delivered when it mattered most.

This time, however, it is Caernarfon who have made the brighter start. Their attacking play has produced more goals than any other team so far, while Haverfordwest’s success remains rooted in their defensive solidity.

Pennock’s men collected their first win of the campaign on Bank Holiday Monday, when Alaric Jones struck in stoppage time to earn a 1-0 victory at Briton Ferry Llansawel.

They are now targeting a first home win of the season to halt Caernarfon’s momentum.

Second-placed Penybont enjoyed a perfect Bank Holiday weekend, defeating Barry Town United 3-2 before overcoming Llanelli Town 2-0 at home.

Rhys Griffiths’ side next welcome Connah’s Quay Nomads to the DragonBet Stadium.

Penybont will take confidence from last season, when they completed a league double over the Nomads.

However, in the 2023-24 campaign it was the Flintshire club who dominated both meetings.

The Nomads head south buoyed by a dramatic 3-2 win against Flint Town United on Monday, where Jack Kenny struck a 90th-minute winner to give new boss John Disney his first league success.

Flint Town and Cardiff Met, both still seeking their opening victory, meet at the Essity Stadium in what could already be a crucial clash near the foot of the table.

Llanelli Town, back in the top flight this season, have endured a torrid start.
Lee John’s men have conceded 14 goals in their opening four games and remain without a point. They face another stern test at home to Bala Town as they try to steady the ship.

Fellow newcomers Colwyn Bay are also looking for their first win, though they have at least managed three draws.

Their most recent was a 1-1 result against reigning champions The New Saints, who sit in fourth after a stuttering start to their title defence.

Craig Harrison’s side head to Jenner Park this weekend to face Barry Town United, aiming to close the gap on early leaders Caernarfon.
