Manager Dean Keates is ready to take decisive transfer action to refresh and rejuvenate his Wrexham squad during the January transfer window.
Many Dragons players will have no case to complain when Keates implements his plan to bring in new players – and send a number on their way.
Wrexham play second from bottom Chorley FC at the Racecourse on Boxing Day before travelling to play Maidenhead away on Saturday.
They then face Chorley away on New Year’s Day before playing back-to-back home fixtures, against Aldershot and Woking.
That is a crucial run of fixtures for Wrexham, who remain in the relegation zone following a 3-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Sutton United.
Omar Bugiel scored a hat-trick for Sutton, while James Jennings netted a late reply.
That defeat was all the more galling because Keates had rested the majority of his senior players from the FA Trophy tie against Halifax in their previous fixture.
“My players fully rested up and we spoke about a bright start,” said Keates. “if I am being honest, we did not start at all and that is by far the poorest performance under my reign since I have been back.
“All I can do is apologise to the fans.
“The fans are unbelievable and that just was not good enough so all I can do is apologise to the fans.
“You are going to make mistakes; you might lose control of the ball or you might pass the ball out of play, but we were outworked from the first minute to the final minute and I will make sure that doesn’t happen again.
“If we have to add fresh faces to take it forward then that will be the case.”
Wrexham are in the Vanarama National League bottom four relegation places, but now sit three points adrift of safety behind AFC Fylde, who still have a game in hand on Keates’ charges.
Only two players, goalkeeper Rob Lainton and battling Luke Young, came away from the Sutton defeat with any credit – and Keates has made it clear he will make January changes to his squad.
