Blah, Blah, Blah . . . Gap Closing . . . Blah, Blah, Blah

Not for the first time, Warren Gatland said the all Blacks’ trademark clinical finishing proved the difference between the sides as the visitors eased their way to a 33-18 win over Wales in Cardiff. The Wales coach also added to the sense of Groundhog Day when he claimed the performance showed that the gap between New Zealand and the rest “may be closing a little bit”. A Welsh victory looked possible for much of the game, particularly in the first half when they dominated possession and had several chances to add to the try Scott Williams scored just before the interval.

30-love – Game, Set And Match To The All Blacks (Again)

Tell me the same old story – up and at them, stretch them to the limit, dominate possession and territory . . . but fail to score! And so Wales fell to a 30th straight defeat to the mighty All Blacks, who were supposed to be at their most vulnerable for many years. Not a bit of it. The world champions soaked up the pressure, took the best shots Wales had to throw at them and then hit back . . . with try after try. It was five tries to two in the end and 33-18 on the scoreboard. Wales huffed, puffed and, at one stage in the first half at least, looked capable of blowing down the Kiwis’ house.

It may have come a day late, but Welsh bobsleigher Mica Moore picked up a belated 25th birthday present as she finished equal fifth with Mica McNeill in the World Cup event in Whistler. It was the best British women’s result at World Cup level for more than eight years and gave last season’s Junior World Champions another huge boost as they attempt to qualify for the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, in February.

The All Blacks – Purveyors Of Fake News Since 1905

For those of you who thought ‘Fake News’ was a modern phenomenon, think again. Long before the Russians allegedly began meddling in foreign elections and Donald Trump began barking at the US media the All Blacks were at it on their first tour of the UK. How else do you explain the actions of Bob Deans in the wake of that legendary 3-0 defeat to Wales in Cardiff on 16 December, 1905. Was it just sour grapes or a face-saving exercise following the first international rugby union defeat suffered by New Zealand.

No More All Blacks’ Aura Stuff . . . It’s Time For Wales To Feed On A Limping Beast

Be afraid and be mesmerised, the All Blacks are in town. Except that script won’t wash this time, says Graham Thomas, who suggests a bit more boldness and belief would serve Wales well. Warren Gatland had a chance to put New Zealand in his cross hairs this week when he was asked if the All Blacks were vulnerable. The Wales coach – still wary after his bruising at the hands of the Kiwi media this summer – smelt a trap and insisted they are never vulnerable.

Some New Zealanders Want The All Blacks To Lose To Wales – But Just Not The Ones Who Matter

With tired legs, jaded minds and absent players, the All Blacks are said to be vulnerable in their final tour match against Wales on Saturday. For Robin Davey, that just means they will win with slightly less comfort that usual. Rhys Priestland summed up what we all know and fear heading into Saturday’s Test against the All Blacks when he said, “If you don’t up your game against them, it’s going to be a very tough day at the office.” Priestland was speaking after his recall to the Welsh ranks against Georgia last week, a game which also turned out to be a very tough day at the office.
