Chaz Davies has been forced to call a halt to his winter World Superbikes test after a high-speed crash.

The Knighton-born rider suffered knee and wrist injuries in the crash towards the end of his first day of testing at Jerez in Spain.

Davies will now see a physiotherapist next week to work out a recovery plan for the winter ahead of the opening round of the new season in Australia next February.

The 30-year-old said: “Unfortunately, a crash in the opening day prevented us from going through our program.

“Now I’ll rest for a few days to reduce the inflammation, and next week I’ll visit a physiotherapist to devise a recovery plan.

“It’s the first time I injure my knee, so we just need to be patient and hopefully we’ll be good to go in a few weeks’ time.”

A statement from his aruba.it Racing Ducati team said: “An MRI showed a sprain of the medial collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments of the right knee, coupled with a contusion, as well as a contusion in the left wrist.”

Davies finished runner-up in the championships last season to Kawasaki rival Jonathan Rea who bagged a hat-trick of titles.
