Devils Will Take Special Pride In Their Clash with Giants

Cardiff Devils have shown off their special edition pride jerseys to be worn in Sunday’s home game against Belfast Giants.

The Elite League fixture is the official launch of the Devils partnership with LGBT Sport Cymru.

Their vision is to support the creation of a thriving, inclusive, sporting community across Wales, where LGBT individuals feel safe, welcome and free from discrimination.

Devils are also pleased to be raising awareness for Stonewalls Rainbow Laces Week. The slogan for the campaign is ‘Make Sport Everyone’s Game’ in support of LGBT.

There are less than 250 tickets left at Ice Arena Wales for the match and the crucial clash looks certain to be a sell-out.

Devils travel to Scotland on Saturday to play Fife Flyers in Kirkcaldy  (7.15pm), while they are at home against Belfast the following evening (6pm).

Latvian-born Toms Rutkiss will be in the Devils team this weekend, while Joey Haddad and Mark Louis are making good progress in their bid for fitness.

Patrick Asselin, Justin Faryna and Mark Richardson are all back in action after regaining full fitness.

Devils and their opponents on Saturday, Fife Flyers, are both suffering from the same ailment – inconsistency.

Coach Andrew Lord and his team have been frustrated by their rollercoaster season and they have suffered three successive defeats going into the Fife fixture.

Flyers coach Todd Dutiaume also admits he is concerned about the consistency of his team. They won 8-6 at Devils after staging a big recovery from 5-1 down, but were thumped 6-1 by Guildford Flames the next evening.

“It was a great performance in Cardiff, but to be successful, you have to be consistent in this league,” said Dutiaume.

“To win in Cardiff after being 5-1 down, any gamblers would have thought we were done. Our powerplay was spot on and we took advantage of all our opportunities.

“That was a great win, but we had found ourselves 5-1 down after getting into some early penalty trouble and the same thing happened on Sunday.

“We’re disappointed and it shows these results can go any which way. We’ll get ourselves back to Kirkcaldy and get back to business.”
