A SEVERNSIDE derby stands between the unbeaten South Wales Warriors and a British American Football Association semi-final. The Warriors host Division Two South West rivals the Bristol Apache in the Southern Conference quarter finals on Sunday (2pm) at Llanharan Rugby Club. The Warriors lost at the semi-final stage last year, at home, to the Portsmouth Dreadnoughts which condemned them to a second successive season in the bottom tier.

Surridge instilled himself with the belief he could cut it at the very top level by troubling Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo in an FA Cup tie in 2018. Bobby Reid was affected by transfer talk and his pre-season performances for Cardiff City dipped – according to manager Neil Warnock. The Bluebirds boss – who let striker Reid join Fulham on loan on deadline day – has claimed the player’s form was not up to scratch. Warnock had hoped to build his team’s bid to return to the top flight around Reid this season, but gave in to pressure in the end and let him go to promotion rivals on a season long loan, with an option to buy.

Wales’ Olympic sailing champion Hannah Mills has admitted her relief at “not messing up” after she was crowned world champion. The reigning Olympic gold medallist Mills and crew Eilidh McIntyre were crowned 470 class world champions in a nail-biting finale on the waters of the Tokyo 2020 sailing venue. At the same event, Wales’ Chris Grube and Englishman Luke Patience – Britain’s sole men’s 470 pair – finished their championships in seventh overall after a solid run of results in the second half of the week.

Warren Gatland has revealed that Taulupe Faletau was still some way behind the rest of the Wales players when he was ruled out of the World Cup. The unofficial fastest man in Wales has set up a fund-raising page in order to help him achieve his dream of competing in the 100 metres at next year’s Tokyo Olympics. Sam Gordon – who recently clocked the fastest ever time by a Welshman with a wind-assisted 10.08s in his home city of Cardiff – is aiming to raise £25,000. The money would allow Gordon to train as a full-time athlete as he bids to earn a place in the Great Britain squad for Tokyo 2020.

Neil Warnock believes he has a new warrior leader at Cardiff City after the club completed a deal to sign Marlon Park from Bristol City. The midfielder has moved to the Bluebirds for an undisclosed fee after six years at Ashton Gate and Warnock reckons the 28-year-old will fill the gap left by Aron Gunnarsson. “He’s the leader we’ve been looking for now since we knew Gunnars (Aron Gunnarsson) was leaving,” said Warnock.
