Gareth Bale is looking to inspire the next generation of golfers in Wales, backing a new national Under 16 event for boys and girls. Working with Wales Golf, who will run the national junior championship at the beginning of June, the tournament is the start of a three-year partnership between Wales Golf, Bale and his management company ICM Stellar Sports.
Cardiff City youngster Oli Denham believes the club are heading in the right direction under straight-talking Steve Morison. Denham is one of a number of youngsters given his opportunity under manager Morison in recent weeks as the Bluebirds boss prepares for a massive summer clear-out. Gareth Anscombe and George North have earned praise from Ospreys head coach Toby Booth after their part in thrashing the Scarlets, 54-36. The Wales pair – who were both on different stages of the comeback road after long periods out injured – helped their side to a victory which keeps alive their Heineken Champions Cup qualification hopes. Anscombe proved he is approaching his best again after two years out with a knee injury, while North played his first match for a year following his own knee problem.
Russell Martin has admitted he felt embarrassed by Swansea City’s latest collapse and vowed to bring in more athletic and powerful players this summer. The Swans head coach again watched his team succumb in a one-sided second-half as they were thrashed 5-1 at Nottingham Forest. In three of their last four games, the Swans have conceded three second half goals to Reading, three to Bournemouth and now four to Forest.
He may have delivered one of the all-time great losing performances in a thriller at the World Snooker Championship, but Mark Williams reckons he would rather have been thrashed. The three-time champion produced an epic fightback before losing 17-16 in a nerve-shredding final frame to Judd Trump in their semi-final at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre. Williams was bidding to add a fourth world title to the triumph he last enjoyed in 2018, but although he contributed to one of the greatest matches in the tournament’s long history, he said there was little consolation.
Steve Morison has described promotion from the Championship as his “vision” for Cardiff City next season, rather than a target. The Bluebirds manager and his team said farewell to their supporters with an underwhelming 1-1 draw at home to fellow strugglers Birmingham City in their penultimate game of the season. Morison is already looking forward to next season and a busy summer of comings and goings but he is realistic about what the expectations should be for the next campaign.

Steve Morison has questioned the desire of Cardiff City players after they suffered a fourth straight defeat. The Bluebirds manager suggested some in his squad lack motivation as they suffered their 23rd defeat of the Championship season with a 2-0 loss at Middlesbrough. Only two of the teams in the relegation places have lost more games than Cardiff this season and if it were not for the points deductions suffered by Derby County and Reading, Cardiff’s home clash against Birmingham City this Saturday would be a likely relegation decider.
Welsh football chief Noel Mooney has come in for heavy criticism from Wales fans following the announcement that TV rights for Wales matches have been sold to a subscription streaming service. Mooney – the Football Association of Wales chief executive – tweeted on Wednesday morning that “UEFA had sold the rights for all 55 national associations for Europe”.
