Sam Northeast has been praised for his influence on the Glamorgan squad after helping to steer the team to a six-wicket victory against Leicestershire on the final day of their LV= Insurance County Championship match in Cardiff. Matthew Maynard, Glamorgan head coach, lavished praise on the former Kent and Hampshire batsman for his presence and control in helping the Welsh side pick up a crucial 23 points, leaving Glamorgan second currently in division two. Maynard was pleased with the performance of his team and points to the experience of their new signing, Northeast, as already having a crucial impact in Cardiff since his debut.

George North will make his first Ospreys start in over a year after being named at outside centre for Sunday’s Welsh derby against the Dragons in Swansea. The Wales centurion made his comeback as a replacement during last Saturday’s victory over the Scarlets. He will be partnered in midfield by Owen Watkin, with Michael Collins shifting to full-back where he is joined in the back-three by Keelan Giles and Alex Cuthbert Up front, Nicky Smith and Tomas Francis line up either side of last week’s URC Player of the Match, Dewi Lake, with the British and Lions pairing of Adam Beard and Alun Wyn Jones in the second row. The Joint Supporters Group representing fans of the four regions have revealed they have been waiting for a meeting with the Welsh Rugby Union for seven months. Responding to the revelation that the WRU are considering a proposal to cut the number of regions from four to three, the JSG have claimed the culling of one of their teams may be behind the long delay.
