Jake Bidewell insists Swansea City will go from strength to strength after finally getting to grips with Russell Martin’s style of play. The Swans eased to a 3-0 home win over Peterborough on Saturday with goals from Bidewell, Joel Piroe, and Olivier Ntcham. They now travel to fourth-placed Coventry City on Tuesday night, looking to make further inroads into the narrow four-point gap between themselves and the play-offs.

Russell Martin insists Swansea City are far from perfect, but they are moving in the right direction as well as up the Championship table. The Swans head coach saw his team win their fourth home game in a row with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Peterborough. Three first-half goals from Jake Bidwell, Joel Piroe and Olivier Ntcham were enough to move the club up to 13th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Russell Martin insists there is still much more to come from Swansea City after the head coach lavished more praise on match-winning pair Joel Piroe and Jamie Paterson. Both players scored for the second successive game as the Swans beat high-flying West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night to make it back-to-back victories in the Championship for the first time this season. Joel Piroe plans to add to his Welsh derby goal with another at home to West Brom on Wednesday night to provide more updates for his next chat with Ruud van Nistelrooy. The Swans’ young Dutch striker – who has already been compared to a rookie Van Nistelrooy – still has one of the greatest Premier League strikers of his generation on speed dial, even though they stopped working together directly when Piroe left PSV Eindhoven this summer. Former Manchester United star Van Nistelrooy is now a coach at the Dutch club where he made his name and took a hand in shaping Piroe’s progress.

Surrounded by his Bournemouth teammates, Lowe held up the No.7 shirt of the absent Brooks after the scorer had just silenced the home support with a well-struck volley to give the visitors the lead.  It was a gesture that might have drawn abuse in a different context, but Brooks has revealed he is starting treatment for cancer and the reaction of the home fans was as dignified as their applause in the seventh minute, moments earlier.

The 29-year-old was shown the door and left without a club following an injury-hit final few months with the Robins.

Mick McCarthy has pledged to fight on as Cardiff City manager after Swansea inflicted a south Wales derby mauling and a sixth successive defeat on his side. Jamie Paterson, Joël Piroe and Jake Bidwell were on target as Swansea piled the pressure on the embattled McCarthy with a comfortable Championship victory. “I am bitterly disappointed,” said McCarthy, whose side are two places and three points above the relegation zone. “It’s difficult when you are on a run like we are. All of a sudden it doesn’t look cohesive and sometimes you get opened up.

The 6ft 5in forward scored an early winner in Estonia on Monday to keep Wales in the hunt for a World Cup play-off place. But he later collected a second booking in qualification after contesting a high ball, meaning he will miss the Belarus game in Cardiff on November 13.

This will be Linington’s first South Wales derby but he has taken charge of both teams on many previous occasions. Cardiff have a terrific record with Linington as referee, having won 16 of their 19 matches with him in the middle.
