Jamal Lowe insists Swansea City are determined to maintain their unblemished defensive record when they face fellow unbeaten Championship rivals Millwall. The Swans have yet to concede after setting a club record with three clean sheets to take seven points out of a possible nine.
Steve Cooper saw Swansea City set a club record in the 2-0 Championship victory at Wycombe Wanderers – then urged the owners to match the ambition off the pitch. The shut-out made it the first time in Swansea’s 100 year history that they have started a league season without conceding a goal in the first three games.
Swansea City assistant coach Alan Tate could have his collar felt by the FA after a bust-up with Birmingham City’s Jon Toral. Tate put his hand to the throat of the Spanish player as he left the field at half-time during the Swans’ goalless home draw. Both Swansea head coach Steve Cooper and Birmingham manager Aitor Karanka claimed they had not seen the incident.
By David Williams Joe Rodon is already benefitting from missing international duty with Wales, claims his club coach Steve Cooper. Swansea City centre-half Rodon – who was on Manchester United’s radar last season – sat out his country’s Nations League wins over Finland and Bulgaria earlier this month. The 22-year-old made his first Championship start […]
Former Swansea City loan star Conor Gallagher is close to joining West Bromwich Albion for another campaign away from parent club Chelsea. Gallagher had appeared likely to join Crystal Palace but that deal fell through and now the midfielder, who impressed for the Swans last season as they surged into the play-offs, is instead heading for newly-promoted West Brom. The 20-year-old is expected to sign a new contract with Chelsea that ties his long-term future to the club, but manager Frank Lampard wants him to get more game time and experience in the Premier League.
Steve Cooper says there are plenty more goals to come from Morgan Gibbs-White after he marked his league debut with Swansea City’s winner over Preston.
Morgan Gibbs-White believes Steve Cooper’s faith in the stars of tomorrow can help him start proving his talent this afternoon. The 20-year-old is set to make his league debut for Swansea City as the club begin their Championship campaign away at Preston North End. It’s not the fixture that either Cooper or Gibbs-White were hoping for back in June, when the Swans were in the promotion play-offs and Gibbs-White was still yearning for an extended run in the first team at Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Bersant Celina will be a perfect fit for French football, according to the former Paris Saint-Germain star who has taken him to Dijon. The Swansea City midfielder has completed a move to the French top flight for an undisclosed fee, thought to be slightly less than the £3m the Swans paid Manchester City for him two years ago. Many Swans supporters will be disappointed that head coach Steve Cooper was unable to get the best out of Celina, a player who could look Premier League quality when the mood seemed to strike him.
Morgan Gibbs-White has been backed to follow in the footsteps of Rhian Brewster and Conor Gallagher and bring some Premier League sparkle on loan at Swansea City. Despite the weekend setback of the Swans’ humbling 2-0 defeat at Newport County in the first round of the Carabao Cup, Swans boss Steve Cooper believes Gibbs-White – his loan signing from Wolves – can hit the ground running when the Championship starts on Saturday. But the Wolves tyro has been told there is no guarantee he will cut the mustard in the Championship despite the midfielder dropping down from Premier League level.
Tristan Abrahams was hailed as a striker of Championship quality after his two-goal performance helped Newport County secure another big knock-out shock against Swansea City. Abrahams struck twice in the first half to send Mike Flynn’s County into the second round of the Carabao Cup after a 2-0 victory over a poor Swansea side. It was League Two County who looked like they belonged in the second tier and not Swansea with striker Abrahams and captain Matty Dolan outstanding.
Steve Cooper and Michael Flynn may be in opposite corners in today’s Welsh derby that kicks-off the domestic season but they are united on one thing – the huge potential of Ben Cabango. The young Swansea City centre-back will not be part of manager Cooper’s squad as they travel to Newport County for their Carabao Cup first round tie. Instead, 20-year-old Cabango is with Wales preparing for Sunday’s Nations League clash at home to Bulgaria, having made a brief debut appearance in the victory over Finland on Thursday.
New loan signing Morgan Gibbs-White is aiming to make a similar splash at Swansea City next season to the one Rhian Brewster made in the campaign just passed. Swans head coach Steve Cooper has again mined the seam of talent he helped produce when he was in charge of the England U17 side. Midfielder Gibbs-White, 20 – who has joined on a season long loan from Wolves – was part of Cooper’s crew of 2017 that won the age-group World Cup and also included Brewster, plus two more of the club’s borrowed staff last season in Conor Gallagher and Marc Guehi.
