Wales flanker Jac Morgan has signed a new deal with the Ospreys – bucking the trend of recent internationals to move elsewhere. The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a fresh agreement to continue with the region he joined from the Scarlets, although the length of the deal has not been revealed. His decision is a major boost for the Ospreys who have recently lost Wales centre Joe Hawkins and flanker Ethan Roots to Exeter.
Toby Booth believes his Ospreys side will face the best team in England “by some distance” when they tackle Heineken Champions Cup round-of-16 opponents Saracens on Sunday. While the Ospreys contest their first top-flight European knockout game for 12 years, Saracens are on familiar territory.
Warren Gatland has revealed that a threat of possible player strike action before Wales’s Six Nations game against England caused “quite a significant split” and “tension” within his squad. Wales head to Rome for a Six Nations appointment with Italy on Saturday after losing their opening three games. Another defeat could mean a first Six Nations wooden spoon for 20 years, given that Wales’ final fixture is against France in Paris.
Rhys Webb is set to make his first Test start for three years as part of another big shake-up by Wales coach Warren Gatland. The Ospreys scrum-half – who has not been selected to begin a Test since 2020 – is poised to come in to face Italy in the Six Nations at Stadio Olimpico on Saturday. Gatland is expected to make changes to the starting lineup, with as many as seven potential alterations from the team that faced England.
Three games into the Six Nations and three defeats for Warren Gatland in his second spell as Wales coach. Is this really the same man who left on such a high and with such credit in the bank three years ago? Daniel Parker says the figure in the big red WRU coat looks strangely unfamiliar. How do Wales fans begin to process that absolutely dismal defeat to the Old Enemy? While there have been more depressing final scores in the history of the fixture – those of us old enough to remember the dark days of the 1990s and early 2000s can unhappily attest to that – there can hardly have been a more abject performance from the men in red.
Wales coach Warren Gatland is considering major changes to his side ahead of their Six Nations match against Scotland on Saturday. Gatland is looking to reinvigorate the Welsh pack with youngsters Dafydd Jenkins and Christ Tshiunza after a disappointing 34-10 loss to Ireland in the first round of the tournament. The head coach is contemplating giving Exeter Chiefs captain Jenkins his first Test start, while Jenkins’ teammate Tshiunza could also earn a place in the starting lineup, depending on his fitness.
By Harry Corish Shane Williams insists the Ospreys are back to their best – and can prove it with a statement win over eight-times URC Champions Leinster this weekend. The Swansea-based region take on the only side left unbeaten in the URC this season, Leinster – who have won their first 11 games of the […]
By Harry Corish The fierce West Wales derby between the Scarlets and the Ospreys will bring the curtains down on an action-packed day of Welsh regional festive celebration. The two derbies will inevitably show the best of regional rugby, as bumper crowds are expected to liven up Welsh club rugby’s most exciting day of the […]
By Graham Thomas Jac Morgan has been tipped as a future contender for the role of Wales captain by former Wales coach Mike Ruddock. Morgan has been one of the few shafts of light in a dark autumn for coach Wayne Pivac, whose team end their November catalogue against Australia on Saturday. Ospreys flanker Morgan, […]
By Harry Corish The Ospreys have secured the Welsh Shield and qualified for the Heineken Champions’ Cup, following a pulsating final weekend of United Rugby Championship action. They went into the weekend needing to equal or better the Scarlets’ upcoming result to confirm their European qualification and top spot in the Welsh shield. The weekend […]
By Graham Thomas Scarlets hooker Shaun Evans has backed Jac Morgan to emerge stronger from his Wayne Pivac heart-to-heart – just as he himself did. Evans – who will line up for his region’s final match of the season on Saturday against the Stormers – was a former teammate of Morgan’s at Parc y Scarlets, […]
Keiran Williams has often been compared to one of the great Lions centres, but it’s another more recent legend who he admits he tries to model his game on. The Ospreys centre has been likened to Scott Gibbs for his direct and dynamic power, shifting balance and quick feet in close quarters. But it is former Ireland captain Brian O’’Driscoll who Williams has studied, a more recent version of a player who eventually learned how to combine forcefulness with flair.
