Wrexham’s Luke Young stunned National League leaders Bromley with a smasher of a goal at the Racecourse.
Former Plymouth and Torquay midfield player Young struck with a stunning volleyed winner from 25 yards and handed the Dragons a 1-0 win.
Young, aged 26, won Wrexham’s goal of the season in 2018-19 for his strike against Dagenham and Redbridge, while he now has a major contender in this campaign.
“That’s the best goal I’ve scored, even better than last season,” said Young.
The winner against Bromley went in after 78 minutes when a corner was nodded down for Young and he went for a spectacular finish. His timing was spot on and earned Wrexham three invaluable points.
“A cushioned header from our corner, the ball sat up nicely and I caught it well,” says the goalscorer. “Thankfully it flew into the top corner.
“A 1-0 win against the team top our league is exactly what we needed. Bromley are a good team, but so are we and we had to prove that.

“Overall, it was a great team effort. Everybody dug in and worked hard for each other.”
Wrexham’s first Manarama National League win since manager Dean Keates took charge saw them move up one place to 21st, but they are still in the relegation zone.
The goal took Keates back almost a decade and he said: “It reminded me of my goal for Wrexham against Kidderminster a few years ago [Tuesday, August 10, 2-2 draw].
“Goal wise it was good enough to win any game at any level. Luke is a great lad who trains unbelievably well, always busy and energetic.”
Wrexham face a variety of challenges over their next three matches – in the Emirates FA Cup, Scottish League Challenge Cup and National League.
They entertain League One Rochdale in the FA Cup next Sunday (12.45pm) and travel to face Rangers under-20 team in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, November 16.
Wrexham’s cup clash with ‘Dale means their scheduled league fixture at Eastleigh has been postponed. The Reds have back-to-back home league matches against Yeovil (Saturday, November 23) and AFC Fylde the following Tuesday.

Keates was in upbeat mood after the win against Bromley, saying: “We’ve gone toe-to-toe with the team who are top of the league and in my opinion we rightly earned the three points deserved.
“The basics – endeavour, hard work and desire was there. The players were outstanding on those factors. We want to get to a point where that’s all there and we play great football.
“This is only one result and we have to build on it.”
There was some bad news for Wrexham after James Horsfield went off near the end and Keates said: “It doesn’t look great. A possible ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] injury.
“Early signs are not great. James is with us on a loan deal and the option was there to extend that. We would have taken that option.”
