Wrexham are in Kent this afternoon for their Vanarama National League clash with Ebbsfleet.

Dragons’ manager Bryan Hughes expects plenty more twists and turns in the promotion run-in and he went on a scouting mission to watch ‘Fleet in midweek action.

“I went to watch Ebbsfleet to see what they’ve got,” said Hughes. “They are organised and powerful. It’s going to be a difficult game.

“Ebbsfleet are on a good run. They have only lost one of their last eight games to give themselves a fighting chance of the play-offs.

“I’m looking for a response from us to try and get back on track. It’s a good opportunity for us and we’re running out of games now.

Ebbsfleet’s stadium.

“Morale was low in the dressing room after the Hartlepool defeat. It was quiet. But the players have had time to reflect now.

“We did some analysis of the game on Monday, picked out the mistakes made and that we need to rectify.

“We can’t rely on anything else. It’s about us, preparing right, planning and hopefully getting the rub of the green when we need to.”

Midfield player Luke Summerfield will miss the game injured, but Mark Carrington could be ready to return.

“It’s a critical stage of the season and we need to be right behind these players now,” he added. “There is a lot still to play for, 18 points at stake.

“I’m not a fool to think we haven’t hit a bit of a wall. I’ve mentioned before, performances haven’t been to my liking.

“I’m wary of it being three defeats in four and we need to stop that. If we end up in a play-off place, we want to go into the play-offs in a rich vein of form.

“We’re in a little bit of a sticky patch [but] I’ve said from the start there’ll be a lot of twists and turns and I still think there will be with 18 points to play for. Leyton Orient have the momentum, but now it’s now their turn to be caught.”
