Both managers were left frustrated after Newport County’s goalless draw against Port Vale at Rodney Parade.
County have earned only one win in their last eight League Two matches, while Vale manager Neil Aspin was so fed up he resigned this morning.
Cardiff-born Lee Nogan, a former Wales international and older brother of ex-Bluebirds striker Kurt, was Aspin’s assistant and also left the club.
The 53-year-old Aspin brought an end his 16 months in charge and said: “I have decided that in the best interests of Port Vale FC that I must resign with immediate effect.”

The Potteries based club have earned only one win in 12 matches in all competitions, but battled hard for an away point against County after having James Gibbons sent off five minutes from time.
“It wasn’t the best of spectacles,” said Newport manager Michael Flynn. “We looked tired at key moments and the pitch was, let’s say, bobbly.
“It’s hard because there was a lot of rain earlier in the day, lots of games previously played on the pitch, and it kind of stopped us playing football.
“In saying that, we got into some good areas but we just didn’t quite make the right decision in the final third.
“Nobody let me down, the players gave their all.

“It’s tough for the strikers. They do a lot of running for the team, Podge (Amond) and Jamma , and you could see that Saturday took that out of them.”
The clash with Vale came only 72 hours after Newport’s 1-1 FA Cup draw at Middlesbrough and Flynn said: “I understand why this performance happened.
“It wasn’t like we played around the corner. We didn’t get back 12.30am.
“We huffed and puffed, created some good opportunities without really having the final ball.
“Keanu Marsh-Brown looked bright when he went on and added a bit of pace. Keanu has been frustrated, but he’s worked really hard along with all of the players.
“They have all been as good as gold and that’s what we’re about.”
County have kept consecutive League Two clean sheets for the first time this season.
The point also saw them move up one spot in the League Two table to 13th, closing the gap on the play-offs ever so slightly to seven points and still with a game in hand on Exeter City.
County make the long trip to Grimsby on Saturday before returning to Rodney Parade next Tuesday for the Emirates FA Cup replay against Middlesbrough.
The cup tie is being televised live on BT Sport and the winners play Manchester City, but Flynn says: “I’m not even thinking about Man City. My thoughts are on Grimsby and then at 5pm Saturday, you can ask me about Middlesbrough.”
Flynn made one change from the starting line-up at Boro, an enforced switch because Antoine Semenyo’s loan spell was ended by parent club Bristol City.

Joss Labadie returned to the starting side for the first time since tweaking a hamstring on Boxing Day.
