Merthyr Town will be feeling right at home when the welcome Wimborne Town to the MetCoaches Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

The Martyrs have earned seven away victories in 12 fixtures on the road this season, while they have only played seven home games.

Ian Traylor’s treble led Merthyr to a 5-1 home win against Tiverton Town last time out and they are in the play-off positions, lying fifth with a game in hand on three of the four teams above them.

Next up are Wimborne, who powered to a 3-0 against Poole Town in the CCS League Cup this week.

Both clubs made a lot of changes to their starting line-ups and Poole sent on 52-year-old Steve ‘Taffy’ Richardson from the subs bench.

Wimborne, from Dorset, have signed 21-year-old centre-half Kieran Douglas from Christchurch, but he is not available for the trip to South Wales.

Steve Flynn, who made an impressive debut off the bench against Staines Town after moving from Bournemouth Poppies, is likely to be in their match day squad.

Merthyr will assess Jarrad Wright and Corey Jenkins, who missed the win against Tiverton with calf injuries, while Craig Reddy and Lee Price have gone out on loan.

Reddy has joined Taffs Well and Price has signed for Ton Pentre.

Goalkeeper Joe Perry, who was sent off after eight minutes of the Martyrs’ midweek win against Tiverton, can play against Wimborne. His suspension starts seven days after his dismissal.

Defender Joe Hunt took over in goal and produced a solid performance in Merthyr’s five-goal win.

Wimborne’s manager is Matty Holmes, who made one appearances off the substitutes bench for the Bluebirds in 1988-89.

Luton-born Holmes, aged 49, joined Cardiff on loan from Bournemouth. He also played for West Ham and Charlton.
