The chasing pack behind Welsh Premier League leaders The New Saints will be given the chance to narrow down the defending champions’ margin after snow forced two WPL fixtures to be called off.
The weekend’s televised game between sixth-placed Bala Town and Saints was declared off early on Saturday morning after four inches of snow fell on Maes Tegid overnight with further snow expected in Gwynedd.
Connah’s Quay climbed up to second on Friday night after claiming a fine 5-1 victory over Aberystwyth Town which puts the Nomads within four points of The New Saints.
Michael Wilde scored twice before half time to give Connah’s Quay a 3-1 advantage going into the second period. Defender Kai Edwards further extended further extended the hosts lead on 71 minutes before substitute Melford Simpson added a fifth late on.
The other scheduled Friday night game between Prestatyn and Cefn Druids was called off.
Cardiff Met could reclaim second place this afternoon if they can see off Newtown after Latham Park passed an early morning pitch inspection. A win for the Students would see the them close the gap on Scott Ruscoe’s side to a single point.
Bangor City are on equal points with Cardiff Met and they travel to Barry Town looking for their fifth-straight league win.
The Citizens performed a clean sweep this week in the monthly league awards with manager Kevin Nicholson claiming Manager of the Month and forward Dean Rittenberg being nominated Player of the Month after scoring five goals in four games in November.
