Former Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has selected Bluebirds defender Callum Paterson in his Scotland squad.

Performance director Malky Mackay is in charge of the national team on a caretaker basis after the departure of manager Gordon Strachan.

Former Hearts full-back Paterson, capped five times, made his Cardiff debut after 10 months out with a knee ligament injury and went on during their 0-0 Championship draw against Millwall.

Ryan Christie, Paul Hanlon and Jason Cummings have been called up to the Scotland squad for the first time for the friendly against the Netherlands on Thursday, November 9 at Pittodrie.

Scotland squad

Goalkeepers: Jordan Archer (Millwall), Craig Gordon (Celtic), David Marshall (Hull City).

Defenders: Callum Paterson (Cardiff), Kieran Tierney (Celtic), Andrew Robertson (Liverpool), Liam Cooper (Leeds), Paul Hanlon (Hibernian), Charlie Mulgrew (Blackburn), Christophe Berra (Hearts).

Midfielders: Stuart Armstrong (Celtic), Scott Brown (Celtic), Callum McGregor (Celtic), James Forrest (Celtic), Darren Fletcher (Stoke City), Ryan Fraser (Bournemouth), Ryan Jack (Rangers), John McGinn (Hibernian), Kenny McLean (Aberdeen), Matt Phillips (West Brom), Graeme Shinnie (Aberdeen), Ryan Christie (Aberdeen, on loan from Celtic).

Forwards: Jason Cummings (Nottingham Forest), Leigh Griffiths (Celtic).

Cardiff players Kenneth Zohore and Aron Gunnarsson are unlikely return from ankle injuries when Ipswich Town visit Cardiff City Stadium for a Championship match on Tuesday.

Joe Bennett, who went off during the clash with Millwall, will be assessed before kick-off.

Manager Neil Warnock said Bennett was taken off as a precaution. If he is not quite ready Paterson will play on the right with Lee Peltier starting at left wing-back.

Former Bluebirds players Tom Adeyemi and Emyr Huws are ruled out of the Ipswich team. Adeyemi is suffering from a hamstring strain, while Huws has an Achilles problem.

Tuesday’s clash will be the 20th meeting in all competitions between Neil Warnock and Mick McCarthy. McCarthy has the edge with 10 wins against Warnock’s seven.
