Former Swansea City player Owain Jones has left Nuneaton Borough and rejoined Merthyr Town.

Jones, who started his playing days with Pontardawe Town Juniors, signed for the Swans at 10-years-old, while he has also played for Yeovil Town.

He joined Nuneaton from the Martyrs on a two-year contract in the summer of 2018 and returned for a loan spell earlier this season.

The contract has been cancelled by mutual consent and Jones is back at the MetCoaches Stadium.

Merthyr have applied for international clearance, which needs to be granted before Jones can play.

Beaconsfield FC, today’s visitors to Merthyr Town, are in seventh heaven as they arrived in South Wales for their clash with the Martyrs at MetCoaches Stadium (3pm).

They won 7-0 against Chesham United in their last match with Tony Mendy scoring a hat-trick, while the Martyrs had Kerry Morgan and Kyle Patten sent off during a 2-0 midweek defeat at Salisbury.

Manager Gavin Williams’ Martyrs played far better than that defeat suggests and will look to put their promotion bid back on course with a win against Beaconsfield, who were promoted to the EvoStik Southern Premier for this season.

Merthyr are sixth in the Premier table, two points ahead of Beaconsfield.

Williams and his team need a home win to maintain their position before they turn to Buildbase FA Trophy action at Farnborough next Saturday.

Entry for today’s home fixture against Farnborough is £12 adults, £9 senior citizens and students, £1 under-16s.
