Manager Michael Flynn is keen to strengthen his Newport County squad with two more signings – in midfield and attack.

The Exiles are aiming to recruit a loan signing to cover for Ade Azeez, who is ruled out for up to six months with an Achilles injury.

Flynn is also keen to sign a midfield player as he plots a big push for League Two promotion in the new season.

Sidcup-born Azeez, 25, is a former Charlton Athletic, AFC Wimbledon, Partick Thistle and England under-19 striker who joined County from Cambridge United in January.

Former gymnast Azeez, injured during an off-season training session, scored one goal in 12 Newport appearances last season.

“It is a big blow for us but we have to look to get another forward in now,” said Newport manager Michael Flynn.

Padraig Amond and Jamille Matt scored 43 goals between them in 2018-2019 and look certain to be Flynn’s preferred first choice strike partnership, but he is keen to ensure there is strong competition.
