It’s been a magnificent week for Newport County manager Michael Flynn.
His wife gave birth to their child and his County team earned a League Two away win at Coventry City.
“It’s been an eventful week, certainly, with my wife giving birth” said Flynn.
“I’m also delighted with a great team performance against Coventry. We were excellent in attack, midfield and defence, while Joe Day made two good saves when they were called for.
“We are going in the right direction and we have competition in all positions now.”
County have had to play their first four matches away this season while the playing surface at Rodney Parade is replaced, while they are on the road again in midweek playing Leeds United in a Carabao Cup tie at Elland Road.
Their first home fixture at Rodney Parade is against Chesterfield next Saturday (3pm).
Newport stunned Coventry City to earn their first League Two win of the season.
This was their first visit to the Ricoh Arena and new signing Reece Cole scored the only goal.
The midfield player, who is on loan from Brentford, scored when his long-range effort slipped through the grasp of Coventry goalkeeper Liam O’Brien.
Tony Andreu and Jodi Jones came close for the hosts, but they were denied by two big saves by goalkeeper Joe Day.
Newport set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with new striker Joe Quigley leading the line.
Scot Bennett was fit after injury, but Flynn stuck with in-form defender Ben White.
Coventry had scored five and conceded none in two League Two fixtures before they welcomed Newport to the Ricoh.
This was County’s day and they showed fantastic team spirit and drive in a hard-earned victory.
