Cardiff City have taken their spending past a reported £28m mark by signing Bobby Reid from Bristol City.
The fee for Reid is officially ‘undisclosed’, but is thought to be around £10m for the striker.
Manager Neil Warnock has now added four new players to his squad, while Junior Hoilett has signed a new contract.
Goalkeeper Alex Smithies has made the move from Queens Park Rangers for £3.5m, Josh Murphy has joined the Bluebirds from Norwich City in a deal reported to be worth £11m and Greg Cunningham is switching from Preston North End for £3.5m.
Cardiff have confirmed the signing of Reid, subject to international clearance. He has signed a four-year contract that will run until the summer of 2022.
The 25-year old scored 19 times in the Sky Bet Championship last season, while also providing seven assists.
He told cardiffcityfc.co.uk: “I’m delighted to be here and to be a Premier League player.
“I want to show my high energy and work rate, as well as being creative and working for the team. I’m buzzing to get started.”
Warnock is delighted to have brought Reid to South Wales: “I’ve been after Bobby for a while now. I like the lad.
“By all accounts he’s great around the dressing room. He can play in a number of positions and his best is yet to come.
“Players like Bobby and Josh Murphy are hungry, and that is what we need now. We’re very happy to bring Bobby in.”
Smithies, 28, has committed to Cardiff until 2022. The former England youth international began his professional career with his home town club Huddersfield Town, making 275 appearances, and helped the Terriers to promotion in 2012, scoring the winning penalty in their League One Play-Off Final shootout victory over Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium.
He moved on to QPR in 2015 and played more than 100 matches, winning the Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Season awards in 2016-17.
“I wondered if he just has a blinder when he plays against us,” said Warnock. “But having watched Alex for a while, there is no doubting his pedigree.
“He’s a lad that knows he will have to fight for his place. Neil Etheridge had a fabulous season in 2017/18 and improved as time went on. It’s great for us to have that healthy competition.”
Murphy, a 23-year-old winger, has signed a four-year contract with the Bluebirds. He came through the Norwich Academy system alongside twin brother Jacob, signing professional terms in 2013.
Josh made his debut in 2013-14 season before going on to make 108 appearances and scoring 20 goals. He scored 11 last season.
Warnock said: “Josh is a player I’ve watched for a number of years now and he’s always excited me when he runs with the ball.
“I think he’s at the right age now with his best still to come. He can play an instrumental part in helping us to stay in the Premier League and I know he’s looking forward to the challenge.
“He’s been my number one target since the end of last season.”
“I’m buzzing to be here in Cardiff and in the Premier League,” said Murphy.
“I’m really looking forward to playing with these boys week in week and out and hopefully doing something special.
“I’ve a lot of time now to get used to the boys so this is the perfect time to come here.
“The city is beautiful, nice and chilled and the people seem really lovely. This is an exciting time and a great place to be.”
His twin brother Jacob signed for Newcastle United a year ago the siblings have the chance to make history by becoming the first twins to face each other in the Premier League.
Newcastle are visitors to Cardiff City Stadium for the first Premier home fixture on Saturday, August 18, while the return is in January.
“I looked for the Newcastle games to see when we’re going to have a bit of Murphy v Murphy!
“That’ll be nice for the family, before and after, but for those 90 minutes it’ll be winner takes all.”
Republic of Ireland left-back Cunningham, 27, has moved from Preston to Cardiff for a reported £3.5m, signing a contract which runs until 2021.
“Greg has consistently been one of the best left-sided defenders for club and country,” said Warnock.
“We’re delighted to have his experience and knowledge to supplement Joe Bennett who had a great time last season.”
The first match action for Cardiff is against Welsh League Taffs Well at Rhiw Ddar, Cardiff on Friday, July 13, while they then go on a pre-season tour to Devon and Cornwall.
