Michael Flynn has committed himself to Newport County following speculation about his future.
The Exiles’ manager has been linked with the vacancy at Lincoln City and he has spoken to the Imps, but has told County’s board: “I’m staying.”
Flynn had been the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Danny Cowley at Sincil Bank.
A statement issued by County says: “Following considerable media speculation, we can today confirm the club received an approach in recent days from another EFL club for the services of manager Michael Flynn.
“The Exiles’ Board gave permission for Michael to speak to the other club. Michael has informed the Board that those talks are at an end and he remains committed to, and fully focused on, continuing his role as manager of Newport County AFC.”

Flynn is with his team at Macclesfield Town this evening for a League Two fixture and Newport need a positive result after slipping to a 2-0 defeat at Northampton Town.
That ended their unbeaten run stretching back into last season and Flynn said: “The players have been on a fantastic run. 17 games unbeaten over a regular season is some effort. Those players give their all, day in-day out, week in-week out.
“We knew a loss was going to come sooner rather than later. But we’ve told the players now that we need another unbeaten run and that starts on Tuesday at Macclesfield.
“We weren’t quite at it at Northampton. We huffed and puffed at times. It was frustrating and a so-so performance.
“Northampton did what they did well and we weren’t quite at it. Northampton took the three points, they deserved them.”
Goals scored in either half by Andy Williams and Sam Hoskins gave Northampton their win.

County dropped two places to fourth and goalkeeper Tom King said: “A number of the players, me included, will admit that we didn’t play to our full potential on Saturday.
“We’ve proven as a team that we’re equipped to deal with setbacks and bounce back straightaway and our priority now is to start another run.
“It was the first time we’ve been behind in the league this season so it was a new challenge for us and one we obviously didn’t deal with on the day.”
