The name of Merthyr Town FC was up in lights before the Chelsea v Manchester United FA Cup final, while the Martyrs were mentioned on the matchball.
Wembley Stadium lit up its iconic arch in the colours of all 737 teams to play in the competition during 2017-18, including Merthyr Town, and club names flashed up on a screen.
The names of 137 Players from across the football pyramid had their names printed on the matchball, including Merthyr’s Mo Touray.
The young striker scored twice for the Martyrs in a first qualifying round tie against Willard Rovers while on loan from Newport.
Merthyr manager Gavin Williams has announced his latest signing.
Goalkeeper Joe Perry, the 26-year-old son of former Cardiff City defender Jason, has agreed to return to the club for 2018-19.
Joe signed for the club in 2010, playing Western League, and helping the club to two league titles.
Perry left the Martyrs to join Newport County, and has also played for Aberystwyth Town, Taunton Town, Mangotsfield United, Tiverton Town and Cinderford Town.
“I’m delighted Joe has agreed to join us,” said Williams. “I was keen to bring in an experienced goalkeeper to strengthen the squad. Joe is still young for a goalkeeper and fits the bill with his qualities.”
