Merthyr Town club captain Ashley Evans has been presented with a silver salver after making his 200th appearance for the Martyrs.

Midfield man Evans, a former Llanelli, Neath and Port Talbot player, has played for both Merthyr Tydfil and Town in his two spells.

Evans and his Merthyr team take on title-chasing Metropolitan Police at their Imber Court ground this afternoon.

The Met are among the teams chasing EvoStik Southern League leaders Weymouth, while Merthyr are 10 points outside the last play-off slot with a game in hand.

Metropolitan Police FC manager Gavin McPherspn.

Former Nottingham Forest, Barnet, Carlisle, Wealdstone and Woking player Gavin has been with the Met football team for more than 20 years.

“Merthyr at home in a must-win match,” says McPherson. “They are a good team and I would have expected them to be challenging right at the top.

“Merthyr are a dangerous team with dangerous players, but we have a chance of winning the league title and winning at home is crucial.”
